Some Anti-Mormon’s will try to debate and argue some preceived ills of the LDS Church. It is their attempt to breed contempt, contention and rebellion in our hearts and minds. They are determined to convince us that the authority of this Church continued to practice polygamy contrary to it’s 1890 Manifesto stopping the practice. An Anti-Mormon of late tried to convince me that this Church lied or misrepresented itself. Initially, this was not a concern to me but this person spurred me to research more about the matter and this is what I found.

Little did this Anti-Mormon know that I would find good information discrediting his claims. I seek truth and good understanding, giving credit where credit is due. That happens to be what Jesus Christ and this Church teaches.

The following are excerpts from “historic” documents or sources.

Recently an Anti-Mormon contacted me and tried to present himself as a ex-member of this Church, likely because he wanted to gain some favour in my eyes. During our email conversation he brought up his disbelief in this Church based on his view of historic events and one of them was the story of Joseph Smith putting a stone into a hat, using it as a seer stone to translate the Book of Mormon. Suffice the say the correspondence ended quickly due to his argumentative style of writing, but that encounter spurred me to write about the “seer stone” and the Urim and Thummim which was used by Joseph Smith to translate the Book of Mormon.

Before writing, I took the position as an investigator, one who has a background in the scriptures. I investigated the validity of a seer stone within the Bible. I started with the Bible because this pertains to religious matters, not worldly matters. Here is what I found.

Lying in wait to deceive

How many times have I read this, not just from the Book of Mormon and from the Bible,

Ephesians 4: 14
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

Can this happen to an average member of this Church, where some unknown person lies in wait to deceive, or is this something we read about that only happens to the most important members of God’s Church?

The slight of hand, the twist of a word and weave of a sentence or paragraph, made in the shadows of evil and personal mischievousness. The crooked smile reflecting thoughts of gain against a devote member of the famed Mormon Church. Lying in wait, ever ready to lie, cheat, deceive, malign and use any tool necessary to bring down a member of this Church.

I am sure that there are some detractors of this LDS Church that would claim, after reading my blog articles and testimony, that if another church had pursued my membership with them instead of the Mormon missionaries, then I would have easily become a member of another church.

I say this to those who claim that, -humbug!

Here is why.

Flash Video (FLV format)

This is a short animated video that I received from a mormon friend. The maker of this animated video was SouthPark. You can locate the same video on line in many video upload sites. IT is known by the name “Final Exam” or “The Correct Answer”.

Here is the video. Click the play symbol to load video. Please be patient, it is about 2.0 mb in size. With most DSL and Cable connections this will be a fast load. If the video loaded poorly, clear your cache of your browser and reload again.

Is this happiness permanent?

Have you heard this before from ex-members? I have heard this and wondered why they would be happy. I wondered if this is something that I should think about, but whether I ponder this or not, the fact remains that Mormon’s will face this claim from ex-members at least once in their life.

Happiness is a relative term. Simply look at some people in diverse places in life. A labourer, a white collar worker, an athlete and so on. Asking each of them if they would be happy in the life style of others and if things are going well for them, then the usual answer is “No”. Happiness is therefore a relative term that is applied by personal preferences, desires, ideas and state of mind. Still, this does not fully explain the claim by some ex-members that they are “happier” not being a Mormon.

It is sad to hear some stories of why a few members leave the Church, even though in numbers they are far less than those who fall to false beliefs and doctrines from others and the world. These few leave because of the poor behaviour of some members, some of who gained positions of leadership in the Church.

The irresponsible behaviour of some members who mistreat, in any way, other members or potential investigators is inexcusable. There is one such story of an ex-member of 15 plus years who suffered mistreatment at the hands of a local Church leader who employed this member in his business when this member was in teen-hood. He refused to pay this member for work done and that betrayal and mistreatment set the stage within the heart and mind of that young member. Later, this young member later witnessed at another LDS Church a Bishop refusing a mother entry into a funeral service for her husband because of his bias toward her lesbianism tendencies. That was the straw that broke the camels back. This member left the Church and to this day refuses to return.

Light is what we feel at the heartThere are many other Christians who speak against the use of feelings in regards to faith and the discernment of truth. Some Christians use the Bible to deny the idea that impressions from the Holy Ghost are felt based on the idea that we cannot trust feelings. Others denounce the idea of feelings because it has no basis in fact or logic, claiming that feelings about Mormonism is far too subjective.

Bible passages used by others to discredit the use of feelings are, Proverbs 3:5 ; 14:12 ; 28:26 and James 2:24, to name a few. It appears that religious beliefs about feelings fall into two basic camps. The ones who deny feelings to promote facts and logic and the other camp that declares feelings as a means to determine if they are saved. Either way, when reading the beliefs of these two camps, I see that there is no real understanding of the scriptures and what God teaches about feelings.

Many of the members of this Church are converts and some of these converts came from both camps, the “fact” camp and the “feeling” camp. It is reasonable to believe that either convert would likely experience some degree of struggle with their past beliefs in the face of the doctrines and teachings of this Church. With the ties to their past still affecting them, it can be difficult to make the transition. The “fact” believers would have to learn the spiritual truth (facts) about feelings and the believers from the feeling camp would need to learn and develop a better perspective of “feelings” in reference to spiritual truth and the gospel.

TurnCoat Mormon

It is known, from the scriptures that many saints will fall in these latter-days. How the saints fall, I am sure will be by many ways. We see in these latter days members of this Church falling into apostasy and members who left the membership because they chose to take issue with other members or with the Church. When I read the many personal accounts of ex-Mormons on the Internet, I found that “taking issue” seems to be the dominate cause.

Recently, I read a blog belonging to an ex-Mormon. His blog is rather new and the content did not provide much detail as to why he left the Church. In fact it was rather vague with many generalized brief statements. He did not explain why certain things caused him to loose his belief in the Church, but what he did state was sufficient to see what caused his disbelief and it had nothing to do with the truth. It had to do his own personal distaste for things he read in the historic information about this Church.
