I had wondered why there are other Christian’s that go around claiming they succeeded in casting out demons or protected others from demon attacks. I wondered how these other Christians, who are not of the Lord’s Church and do not have the Holy Priesthood, can succeed, to any degree, in these efforts? It did not take long for me to see and realize the answer. It is a simple answer and it is how and why Satan does not completely control this world.

The answer is “right” (versus wrong) and free will and choice.

Is Belief Alone So Bad?

From time to time, I hear fellow members of the Church express disappointment and discouragement about a lack of a testimony born from a spiritual experience. Another is the disappointment expressed in regards to the lack of personal revelations or the infrequency of them. For some time now, I wondered why other members had such a difficult time obtaining a testimony, or why they have such a lack of personal revelation while other members obtained a personal testimony by the Spirit and experienced many personal revelations.

We know that either a personal testimony or personal revelation are born of the Spirit and each full member has the gift of the Holy Ghost. We know that each member has the right to the counsel and guidance of the Holy Ghost, yet some members claim they do not receive such guidance while others have. So why is it that some members do not experience the Spirit of God?

I pondered this for some time and even prayed to the Father for answers until recently I felt impressed to write this particular article.

I have read the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price. I learned the importance of their content and what it means for my spiritual life with God. How I came to realize this was over time, through many experiences with the scriptures and in life.

I experienced positive changes when I properly studied the word of God. I have found that the key to gaining spiritual awareness, a heightened state of heart and mind, depends on whether I am sincere and humble when reading and studying the word of God. When I leave these books and stop reading them, the heightened change slowly diminishes and I begin to feel “less spiritual”. This showed me that a spiritual state, a “heightened state” (and peaceful) state of mind depends on my focus and involvement with the word of God. It showed me that things in this world are temporary and to maintain something, requires continued attention and diligence. It is just like staying fit, exercise must continue else the “fit state” diminishes.

Flash Video (FLV format)

This was found on YouTube and I have a copy of that video here. It is a famous and well respected president of the United States, John F. Kennedy, who spoke highly of the Latterday Saints. That address was recorded and is available for all to hear.

The video here is a Windows Media format, and it will need to load before it plays. It is about 2.8 mb. It is a fast download for cable and DSL. The video page will operate in IE 6, 7 and 8 Beta, as well as Firefox, Opera and Safari. In the event the video viewer does not load here, the link for this YouTube segment is:

Be aware that at YouTube, many Anti-Mormon videos will appear after viewing this segment. It is the way YouTube sets up their pages and video feeds.

What was before is not what it is now.

Usually it is the simplest thing that eludes our perceptions such that, what we think we see or understand is actually not the truth.

Life holds many such experiences, yet people take these experiences and facts of life (in mortality) for granted. Not realizing that these simple things have profound affects on our minds and hearts.

One such event came into my life years ago when I was beginning my membership into the Church. At that time I had no experience with the gospel, but had my own ideas and beliefs about spirituality and life. Of course, these personal ideas and beliefs were born of the world.

I re-read the Book of Mormon on a regular basis because I find that each time there is something more to learn and this increases my knowledge. What I was not able to “perceive” before, I may perceive the next time and so forth. There is always a profit of knowledge when reading with an open heart and truth-seeking mind. Having said that, pearls of wisdom and knowledge are abound in the Book of Mormon and I find great delight in receiving these pearls. Once such pearl I found refers to a limitation of Satan’s powers.

Development of faith requires the study of God’s word, to learn his principles, laws and wisdom. This we all know, but did you know that faith is also developed and strengthened by understanding evil?

First allow me to clarify that statement.

We are not to seek evil in any way. The light of knowledge is not gained by stepping into darkness, it is by stepping into the light. When faith is fed and nurtured by study of the word, it is also worked and tested. God allows us to be tempted or even approached by evil, then by those experiences, we can gain an understanding of evil.
