Jacques-Louis David - sorrow

Isaiah spoke of this as the method of God of how he teaches us by his Spirit, but did you know that this is also the way he brings us to overcome our problems and shortcomings? After all, what do you think would be the way that God uses to brings us affliction, trial or tribulation?

Within the Book of Mormon, it teaches us that God gave us weaknesses so that we may be made humble ( Ether 12:27, 28, 35, 37 ). God also said that he will show our weakness to show that faith, hope and charity bringeth unto God and through weakness we can be made strong, but what God shows from these weaknesses are things that are not easily perceived. This means that no matter how hard you may try identify your own weaknesses, you will not be able to find how they are constructed and integrated into your mind and heart. To see into the heart, to know what lays there affecting you life, God is required.

Do you believe that you can still do this on your own?

Within the Bible, there is a scripture that speaks about our weaknesses. This is 2 Corinthians 7:10, where Paul the Apostle spoke of Godly sorrow vs worldly sorrow; the latter bringing death and the former works for our salvation.  In this “sorrow” is our weaknesses, those things that God gave us to make us humble and to clean us with.

To try to do this on your own without God’s help is the same as walking down the path blindfolded, because no person has the power, knowledge and sight to see their way clearly or know what is needed to replace the weakness so that strength is obtained. In addition how and what God uses to move us within our hearts, minds and souls is a power that we do not have on our own. For us to overcome our shortcomings or weaknesses requires a kind of power that only God has. It is that power that moves us within and gives us clarity and peace when we are drowned in mortal ignorance or clouded with emotions.

With this power, God leads us, brings us, helps us step by step. This is the “line by line”, where we are moved, afflicted, suffer sorrow, given insight, all in a step process that allows us to see, understand and change. When an athlete is trained, the progression to greater strength is gradual and within the abilities of the athlete. So it is the same with us for God to help us overcome our weaknesses. The process is gradual and moves as fast as we are able to bear, even with times of feeling all is lost, it is what we can bear.

Line by line is how we are changed. Given insights, etc of what we need to see and know of our weakness and revelation given at the right time to seed in his principles, truths, etc that replaces the weakness with strength. Yet in this is humbleness for any thing that comes from God cannot be given unless we are humble, which is the child like state.

So as you pass through your affliction, trials, etc,  and get frustrated that things are not moving fast enough to a resolution, remember that so long as you are in tune with the Holy Spirit, the resolution will come line by line and always be enough for that thing which is being resolved. This says that with our weaknesses, they usually carry many different parts and what God gives to resolve applies to that part which God has you working to overcome. For ”line by line” also refers to how the weakness or shortcoming is resolved. It is done part by part and this is why patience is truly a virtue.

Amen
