There has been quite a debate about LDS ceremonial garments, routinely called “Mormon undergarments”. The use and purpose of these garments have been attacked, degraded, condemned and maligned by those who are “anti-Mormon” and even anti-Semitic style criticism.  The affect has been, to some degree, a thorn in the side of many latter-day Saints who struggle enough with their faith. It is the purpose of these attacks to degrade, malign and cause confusion, inserting doubt and even resentment into the minds and hearts of devout Saints.

Being human and mortal is tough all by itself, but when the natural weaknesses of mortality are bent and used by the selfish evil doers, it makes life all that much harder. With such a trait and characteristic of these “anti’s” one wonders why they are not seen for the malicious and destructive nature they are, but unfortunately many good people are badly affected by the misguided.

What does this have to do with Mormon undergarments? The answer is in this blog report to those faithful as to the effect these garments have and the worth they give. With this entry, I have no intention to battle against the mindless who are hell bent on discrediting. I have every intention to give to those who care about their faith some help in better understanding why these undergarments exist. For God does not give us worthless things as a means to work our faith.

Consider this analogy. You are going to an important function and all you have are outdated suits or clothes. You decide to renew your wardrobe and purchase a new jacket, or suit, or item of clothing that you intend to wear to that function. You find what you like and it looks good. You attend the function wearing these new clothes . How do you think you would feel? Of course the answer is that you would feel good. You feel good with a pair of quality shoes, you feel good when things are done well, you feel good that the picture you bought for the house looks fantastic and gives that “air” about it that promotes something to enjoy.

It is along the same lines with the Mormon garments.

In order to feel the way the examples show, you would need to possess an understanding and comprehension that allows you to gain the benefit of such things. If you had not these basic things, those things that would promote goodness in this world would have no value. If someone does not like art, he/she would not have an appreciation for it and so it goes for Mormon garments. A person who learns and understands the official reasons for these garments will have a basic comprehension of why they are important, but that is not enough. They must be willing to accept and appreciate these things.

These garments represent and provide much more. The wearing of these garments can provide the faithful a feeling that is positive, good and holy. In the same way that proper fasting provides for faith. The proper state of mind is to promote a goodness, a focus and thought that encourages purity, sanctity and holiness. Is this not an invitation to the Gift of the Holy Ghost?

When a person wears these undergarments, they have a physical coverage on the body that is designed for modesty. If the spirit of modesty is not desired, then that person’s mindset is directed toward immodesty, to some degree and the opposite which will result. Such a person will not be open to appreciate the value of these undergarments, but a person who desires the spirit of modesty and chastity will appreciate these garments. It is this chastity that promotes the right spirit within the heart and mind and that leads a person to walk in focus and worship as per the first commandment from Jesus Christ.

This chastity truly does create a protection against the evils of Satan. Believe it or not, this is true. I can attest to this truth by my own experiences. Wearing proper garments when going to sleep to represent modesty provides to that person the proper spirit of chastity and that is the shield against Satan and his minions. The effect of proper and full undergarments cannot be understated. The feeling one gets as if ”protected” and covered is prevalent to those who care about their spiritual state. This is why some other religions have such a rule of proper coverage. Even though it has been misused, the idea is there.

Essentially, the wearing of these “Mormon Undergarments” places one’s mind and heart into a focus of chastity and purity, to do good which is an “action” and that is a faithful act. This act of faith does bring oneself into line, or more into line with the Spirit of God. No matter what rhetoric is played by others, they do not understand the spiritual nature of these garments. Doing proper acts and “choosing the right” (CTR) brings better faith and alignment with God and his Spirit, so is the proper act and choice of the Mormon undergarments, because they are approved of God.

Proper coverage is the key here, to help create for you the state of mind and heart that seeks and speaks chasity and purity. This I say is true. In fact to encourage a proper written article with the proper spirit of mind, I sat here typing this article listening to classical music, as that opens the mind to good things and all good things are of God. Do you see the connection here with things in life and the scriptures?

Do you want to feel right and good? Want to feel you are doing your part for your faith? Then wear modesty, think modesty and do modesty. If you are a member of the Lord’s Church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and you are not yet able to purchase the “undergarments”. Simulate the practice with regular undergarments, both in the day and night during sleep.

Keeping the Spirit is to do that which shows by example and by heart that the Spirit is important, both for yourself and for God. Do the coverage and be pleased.
